Bengaluru, Oct 11: JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday October 11 lashed out at the state government for asking teachers to return to schools in the midst of corovirus pandemic and not sanctioning them midterm holidays.
In a series of tweets Kumaraswamy said, "The ruling BJP government is taking the wrong approach. Teachers of government and private schools in the state are going to the schools and teaching even during this time of coronavirus pandemic.
"The teachers of government schools have worked everyday on Covid duty as well as the Vidyagama project of the government. However, the state government is treating them poorly by cancelling the midterm holidays.
"What is the basis for cancelling the midterm holidays of this year from October 3 to 26? Are teachers daily wage labourers working under dictatorship?" he said.
"Though the students are not coming to school, teachers are being used relentlessly for all other services. Even then what the government is trying to prove by cancelling their midterm holidays?"
"The government which is supposed to deal with the teachers in a honourable manner is implementing orders out of its pride. Government should not forget the saying 'Hara Munidaru Guru Kayvanu' (Even if God gets angry teacher will protect). Government should immediately withdraw the order cancelling the midterm holidays of the teachers and declare midterm holidays for them."
