Mangaluru, Oct 8: All India Civil Engineers Association president Vijay Vishnu Mayya warned of halting construction work for a week as part of protest if the district administration fails to resolve the sand issue.

Addressing media here on Thursday, October 8, Vijay Vishnu Mayya said, "Sand is one of the natural sources of the coastal belt. But, for the past 11 months, we have been facing scarcity of sand, which is displays failure on the part of the district administration. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the real estate business has been hit and at the same time, we are also facing a scarcity of sand. When sand is being made available illegally during the night, why is there unavailability of the in the day? The procedure of providing licence is being done at a snail's pace brought on by the laziness of the officers and following the lack of political will power."

"If the sand scarcity continues then over 100 building construction organisation may shut down for which officials and people representatives should make way for it, said Vijay Vishnu Mayya.

CREDAI president Naveen Cardoza said, "On October 10 there will be meeting chaired by district in-charge secretary pertaining to sand and other issues, based upon the outcome of the meeting we will consider stopping all the construction work for a week as it is the only option left. We have submitted several pleas with representatives and officials but no one has paid any heed to them."

Civil Contractors Association vice president Mahabala Kottari, members Ramakrishna Rao and others were present.

I am no civil engineer, but why should one focus only on one avenue? Especially when the use of sand results in a dear loss to the environment.

Thanks for clarifying! I really need to read more about the geography and features of this place.

Perhaps we wouldn't need to worry about the occurance of such a situation as we have such a wonderful sand mafia helping us! xD

Here's another article which my biased searches came up with
    https://swarajyamag.com/politics/why-did-floods-rattle-mangaluru-neglect-of-wetlands-was-a-decisive-factor

    Anyways.....
Keeping aside any environmental issues and assuming the area might flood more due to non-extraction,

We see that the article stated about a lack of sand being provided to the real-estate sector, for which I was wondering about the use of suitable alternative to avoid the cut in supply.

Another search yields me this, as the Quora answer stated that there is no substitute for sand as a fine aggregate:
    https://www.researchgate.net/post/Can_someone_suggest_an_alternative_of_sand_as_a_fine_aggregate_in_concrete

Do pardon the crude nature of these searches, but I see even engineers in big corporations being caught copying code line by line
    (eg: https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2016/5/4/11593084/dont-get-busted-copying-code-from-stack-overflow)

This looks like big sand Mafia...Before we get one load of sand for 3500,now it's 16000/load,that too at night only... Why this mafia continues at any party regime???
All smart City projects will get sand... But private projects not... Why this hypocrisy ???
