Sehwag is Wisden Cricketer of the Year Again

NEW DELHI, Apr 14 (PTI): Explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag became 'Wisden Cricketer of the Year' for the second time in a row, beating off competition from England captain Andrew Strauss and Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan.

The award, which was instituted in 2004, has Australian captain Ricky Ponting, spin wizard Shane Warne and talismanic English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff among its past winners.

The 31-year-old Indian was picked for the honour for a second successive year after scoring "more quickly than any specialist batsman in Tests or one-day internationals", a website reported.

Sehwag apart, English wicketkeeper Matt Prior, spinner Graeme Swann, batsman Graham Onions, pacer Stuart Broad and Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke were the 'Five Cricketers of the Year' chosen by the magazine.

Sehwag averaged 70, with a strike-rate of 108.9, in the Tests he played last year. In one-day internationals, Sehwag had a strike-rate of 136.5 while averaging 45.

Strauss and Dilshan were also nominated by several correspondents who were consulted about this award but fell short of Sehwag.

    i have seen him a only player who plays for team no matter what ever the team sitiuations, he is the real blaster not the other one who plays for himself and for records not for the team

    Schwag,s rare feat of achivement of successive second time WISDEN CRICKETER OF THE YEAR feels us proud of him.His exposive batting is second to none and every body @ toe while he is batting ! He is greast dashing opening batsman of India and in the whole world of Cricket.CONGRATS SCHWAG,KEEP GOING.

    Congratulations ! I think Sehwag's ion is unanimous. How can Matt Prior,Onion,Clarke or Broad challenge Delhi Dare Devil ? He can smash any bowler ,any time & in any ground without effort. I still remember his 195 runs (scored in one day) in Sydney test match and 300 plus runs against Pakistan in Multan test. I am confidnet that Sehwag will make HATRICK by clinching WISDEN again next time.
