Panaji, Sep 30: Death tally due to COVID-19 is soaring in Goa state which went up to 420 on Tuesday September 29 with 12 casualties. One patient succumbed to the virus immediately after his discharge while one patient was brought dead to the hospital.
Speaking on the person who died after discharge, Dr S M Bandekar, dean of Goa Medical College (GMC) said that the patient had taken discharge against medical advice.
The dean further said that all the beds set for COVID-19 in GMC were filled due to which some patients are even placed on stretchers. "About 20-25 COVID cases need admission every day, most come in critical condition. We will start shifting some patients to the South Goa district hospital in a day or two."
He said that as per the records on Tuesday, about 600 patients were under treatment at government-run hospitals with maximum patients at GMC. The few beds allotted in four private hospitals have all been filled, as per claims.
Private hospitals have not more than 100 beds altogether.
As per the data on Tuesday, Goa had 4,576 active cases with 709 recoveries. The state has witnessed growth in recovery rate to 85 percent with 27,781 patients cured since March.
