Mangaluru, Sep 27: Due to the sudden stoppage of concretization work of the main road at Kerekadu of Mulky near here, the villagers are facing difficulty in commuting on the stretch of road.
Through the grant of a Rajya Sabha MP, the project of road concretization at a cost of Rs 1 crore was in progress. The earlier asphalt layer was being removed and concrete was being put on the road. However, since the past 15 days, the work has completely stopped.
The road concretization work is going on at a dangerous bend where the low lying area was filled with mud and the hilly area was dug and made level to widen the road. The asphalt layer is completely removed and gravel stones are put on that area. Due to the incessant rains that lashed for a week, the road is completely filled with sludge now and made the movement of vehicles virtually impossible.
People of Kerekadu are taking 2 km extra long route to reach Mulky. Vinod Kumar, zilla panchayat member of Bolloor says, "The local MLA has taken great pain to get the grant released from the government as this is a road that connects the rural area with Koraga colony. Due to the rains, the work of concretization is stopped. Now as the sunshine is back, the contractor is instructed to start work in the coming week."
