Puttur, Apr 8: Udupi-Chikmagalur MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, said that the power shortage pangs in the coastal districts of the state will be things of the past soon. He was addressing a press conference held here on Wednesday April 7.
“The Chief Minister has already ordered for the purchase of power from Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL - erstwhile Nagarjuna). Once this company commences commercial operations and starts generating power, most probably by the end of this month, the twin-districts can hope to forget about their power shortage,” he added. He said that the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd officials and Karnatala Electricity Regulatory Commission officials will soon finalize the power purchase terms with the UPCL.”
Gowda said that the power generation of UPCL will be 500 mega watts, and the demand for power from the two districts is 480 mw per day. The agreement will pave way for connecting the UPCL power to the Mescom grid. The purchase price for the UPCL power has been fixed at Rs 2.80 per unit, he narrated.
