Indian Mujahideen Prime Suspect in Pune Blast

Mumbai, Apr 8 (IANS): The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is on the verge of a breakthrough in the Feb 13 Pune terror blast and two suspects linked to the Indian Mujahideen (IM) have been identified, Home Minister R.R. Patil said here Thursday.

Patil said in the state assembly that the masterminds of the Pune blasts are considered to be IM founders -- Riyaz Bhatkal and his brother Yasin Bhatkal.

Seventeen people, including five foreign nationals, were killed and dozens injured in the blast that ripped through the German Bakery in the posh Koregaon Park area of the city on the eve of Valentine's Day.

The home minister was responding to a discussion on the working of his ministry.

The IM has been instrumental in carrying out explosions in several other Indian cities in the past few years.
