Mangalore: Aloysius College Asserts, Its Students Are Eligible for Degrees, Medals

Mangalore, Apr 5: The principal as well as the registrar of St Aloysius College have asserted that as per the state High Court order, the students of the college are eligible to get awards, medals and degrees at the convocation of Mangalore University to be held on Tuesday April 6.

Mangalore University has been claiming that the students of St Aloysius College, which has become an autonomous college, are not eligible to receive awards, medals and degrees because of the College’s failure to clear its dues with the university. As per the interpretation of the University, the state High Court interim order in this case has not specified that the 2007-08 batch of the students of St Aloysius College has to be awarded degrees, awards and medals.

The principal and registrar of the College have said that the High Court order has clearly said that the students of the College, who are eligible for awards and medals, should be allowed to take part in the convocation, without insisting on payment of registration fee, which has been the bone of contention between the College and the University.

    Well said by the High Court. The dispute is between College management and University Syndicate of tactical aspects and financial issues. This is not against the basic guidelines of the University by the St. Aloysius College.   University Syndicate and College management should sort out the differences as per the guidelines but not as per one's own preconception which is not healthy.

    As an old student of St. Aloysius College I wish to make a pertinent statement that this great Institution of name and fame which started one hundred and thirty years ago has traditionally adhered to all rules and regulations and it is not fair on the part of people to make any adverse reflections in this context. I am afraid the media has not correctly interpreted the facts. St. Aloysius has never in the past has failed with regard to the norms to followed. Our students should rightly get their dues for the trouble they have taken to do well in their exams.
