Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 13: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday September 13 recorded a sharp spike in coronavirus tally with 404 new cases and three deaths, while Udupi reported 126 new cases.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 17,363 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,934 are currently active. A total of 1,21,093 samples have been tested so far, out of which 1,03,730 are negative.
As many as 12,987 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 174 on Sunday. A total of 442 deaths have occured so far, including three on Sunday.
Among the 404 new cases, 111 are contacts, 192 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 20 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 81 cases are under investigation. As many as 163 out of the 404 are asymptomatic.
Out of the 404 cases, as many as 212 are from Mangaluru, 60 from Bantwal, 39 from Beltangady, 46 from Puttur, 27 from Sullia and 20 are from outside DK district.
All the three patients who died on Sunday had comorbidities. Bantwal reported one death while two others were from outside DK district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 7,433 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 46 fresh admissions on Sunday, while a total of 6,598 people are in home isolation, including 80 new on Sunday.
As many as 12,176 people, including 154 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 6,540 from hospital isolation wards, and 5,636 from home isolation.
A total of 86,092 samples have been collected so far, including 2,019 on Sunday, out of which 1,822 are COVID suspects and 156 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 71,749 have turned out to be negative, including 2,039 on Sunday, and 305 reports are awaited.
As many as 14,038 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 126 on Sunday, and 1,732 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 130 deaths have occured so far.
Among the 126 new cases, 53 are in Udupi, 47 in Kundapur, 20 in Karkala, and six from outside the district. Among them, 46 have ILI, 11 have been diagnosed with SARI, and 33 are under investigation. Six patients have domestic travel history. Out of the 126 cases, 57 are asymptomatic.
