Beltangady, Apr 1: The special forest mobile squad from Mangalore nabbed two person, accused of illegally carrying two deer pelts at Ujire town junction, here on Tuesday March 30. The police also seized the two deer pelts from the accused.
The accused have been identified as Rama Gowder (42) and Ravi Gowder (28), both residents of Tarikere in Chickmagalur district. The accused were waiting for prospective buyers of deer pelts at the spot when they were arrested by the police.
A case for illegally possessing animal pelts under Wildlife Conservation Act has been booked against the duo. The mobile squad handed over the custody of the duo to local police for carrying out further investigations into the case.
The operation was conducted under the direction of inspector general of police Narayan Gowda, Bangalore and Madikeri forest unit superintendent of police R Krishnamurti by sub-inspector, Mangalore forest mobile squad Navinchandra Jogi and police personnel Ashok Shetty, Sitaram, Umesh Hosalike, Paparam Shetty, Dayanand, Chandrashekar and Harish Gowda.
