Udupi, Mar 31: Tuesday March 30 happened to be the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman (Hamanujjyanti). On this occasion, various programmes, most important among them being singing the eulogies of the Lord and singing of devotional Bhajans, were organized in temples dedicated to Hanuman in the state.
Srikrishna Mukhyaprana Seva Samiti had organanized Hanumajjayanti festivities in Srikrishna Mutt here. Various programmes had been lined up since morning to night, culminating in the pulling of seven chariots through the Car Street at night.
The programme of Bhajans undertaken by troupes of women and men, was inaugurated in the morning, by Paryaya Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji. Head of the above Samiti, Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, Diwan of the Mutt, Latavya Acharya, office bearers, Vadiraj, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Manohar Shetty etc., were present.
In the evening, programmes of devotional songs were organized at Car Street by a team of International Society for Krishna Consciousness, M S Giridhar and troupe, Saraswati troupe from Mysore and Ganesh Beejady troupe. Other attractions included Nagaswaram recital, performance of the Chende troupe from Kerala.
The programmes ended with the pulling of the seven chariots on the Car Street. Special show of unique fire crackers had also been arranged. Paryaya Swamiji, senior and junior Swamijis of Pejawar Mutt and Kaniyoor Mutt Swamiji took part in the car festival.
The idols of Lord Mukhyaprana (Hanuman) installed at base Mutts of Palimar, Shirur, Pejawar etc., also were offered special pujas on the occasion. At the Mukhyaprana temple in Mangalore too, day-long programmes had been organized to celebrate the birth anniversary of its presiding deity.
