Bengaluru, Sep 6: State government had established a sprawling Covid care centre at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre at Madavar during the beginning of increasing of coronavirus infections in the city. This facility had a 10,000-bed capacity and the effort of the state government was lauded by one and all. The state BJP government even used this Covid care centre for its propaganda. However, BBMP (Bruhut Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has informed that it is going to close this centre down from September 15 as the doctors are allowing most of the coronavirus infected people to get quarantined at home.
This Covid care centre was inaugurated just one and a half months ago after spending crores of rupees from the state exchequer. Thousands of migrant workers, infected with coronavirus are being treated here. The public is now expressing its rage against BBMP's decision to close down the centre so soon.
BBMP, on its part, has taken out a press release in which it has stated that the decision to close down the centre is taken by union in charge and senior IAS officer Rajendra Kataria after discussing the same with CM Yediyurappa.
This Covid care centre was the ambitious project of the BJP government led by CM Yediyurappa. It was inaugurated on July 27 by DCM Ashwath Narayan and the delegation of ministers led by senior officers.
The Covid care centre had a cot, fan, bucket, mug, dustbin and other essential infrastructure for the benefit of patients. Rumours were also making round that a big scam has taken place in setting up the facility.
It is said that the beds and furniture from this centre will be sent to government organizations, hostels of universities and public hospitals. Now, this centre is being closed citing the reducing number of Covid patients. In addition, it is said that many other Covid-19 centres are also going to be closed in the coming days.
