Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 6: In yet another major spike reported in the week, Dakshina Kannada on Sunday September 6 recorded 326 new cases and one death, while Udupi reported 216 cases.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 14,926 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,084 are currently active. A total of 1,06,431 samples have been tested so far, out of which 91,505 are negative.
As many as 11,441 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 202 on Sunday. A total of 401 deaths have occurred so far, including one on Sunday.
Among the 326 new cases, 34 are primary contacts, 168 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 15 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 109 cases are under investigation. As many as 134 out of the 326 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 187 are from Mangaluru, 39 from Bantwal, 28 from Puttur, 27 from Sullia, 33 from Beltangady and 12 are from outside DK district.
The lone death reported on Sunday was from Mangaluru and the patient had comorbidities.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 7,071 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 75 fresh admissions on Sunday, while a total of 5,649 people are in home isolation, including 141 new on Sunday.
As many as 10,763 people, including 270 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 6,041 from hospital isolation wards, and 4,722 from home isolation.
A total of 77,829 samples have been collected so far, including 938 on Sunday, out of which 641 are COVID suspects and 160 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 64,752 have turned out to be negative, including 629 on Sunday, and 350 reports are awaited.
As many as 12,727 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 216 on Sunday, and 1,852 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 112 deaths have occurred so far.
Among the 216 new cases, 137 are in Udupi, 43 in Kundapur, 31 in Karkala, and five from outside the district. Among them, 74 acquired the virus through contacts, 84 have ILI, 11 have SARI, and 40 are under investigation. Seven have domestic travelling history. Out of the 216 cases, 96 are asymptomatic.
