Bengaluru, Sep 5: The Central Crime Branch (CCB), which aims at rooting out the international drugs mafia that has got deep-rooted in the state, has been identifying the peddlers and customers linked to the scandal and arresting them in order to banish the drug trade from the state. Reportedly, many actors, industrialists, dignitaries and children of affluent families are involved with the racket.
It is said that as soon as she came to know that her friend Ravishankar was arrested, Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi erased the data in her phone and bought a new mobile overnight. CCB special teams came to her apartment on Friday morning. When inspector Anjumala, knocked at her door, Ragini who was sleepy, opened the door and was taken aback at the presence of police there. Her advocate arrived there but did not say anything after the search warrant was presented.
It is said that Ragini used to chat with Ravishankar on WhatsApp during which drugs issue was also discussed. The police who took over the mobile phone of the actress realized that it was a new mobile. After the operation, they brought her to the CCB office in their car and arrested her after getting her clarification to certain statements made by Ravishankar.
It is said that during the investigation covering many including an African national, the CCB came to know that separate parties were organized for rich persons, dignitaries and their children, where drug sale and consumption was allowed. Ravishankar and Rahul reportedly bought drugs from peddlers and sold them at the parties. The CCB staff suspect that Ragini also consumed drugs. CCB joint commissioner Sandeep Patil, said that the police recovered some important things at Ragini's house and that they have been sent for forensic testing. He added that reasons for her arrest would be made known later.
In the meanwhile, Konanakunte police have arrested three foreigners on the charge of selling drugs.
