Bengaluru, Aug 28 (IANS): Karnataka has registered 8,960 more Coronavirus infections, raising the state's tally to 3.18 lakh, even as 7,464 more patients have recovered from the virus, an official said on Friday.
"Today, 8,960 new positive cases are reported and 7,464 people have been discharged," said Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey.
After two straight days of 3,000 plus cases, infections in Bengaluru came down to 2,721 on Friday. The city's tally rose to 1.21 lakh cases, out of which 36,521 are active cases.
Among other places, Mysuru has emerged as the second hotspot in the state after Bengaluru, registering 726 more cases, followed by Ballari (484), Dakshina Kannada (448), Davangere (379), Hassan (357), Shivamogga (314), Tumkur (250) and Kalaburagi (222).
In the past 24 hours, 136 more patients succumbed to the virus, resulting in the statewide toll rising to 5,368.
However, on a positive note, 7,464 more patients have recovered from the virus, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2.27 lakh.
Of the 3.18 lakh cases, 86,347 are active while 754 are in the ICU.
Karnataka Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar said the overall state recovery rate stands at 71.22 per cent.
