Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 27: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Thursday August 27 recorded 297 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths, while Udupi recorded 209 fresh cases and one death.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 11,389 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,372 are currently active. A total of 89,937 samples have been tested so far, out of which 78,548 are negative.
As many as 8,680 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 257 on Thursday which include nine from Covid care centres, 185 from home isolation and 63 from hospitals. A total of 337 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Thursday.
Among the 297 new cases, 61 are primary contacts, 99 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 14 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 123 cases are under investigation. As many as 174 out of the 297 are asymptomatic.
Out of the 297 cases, as many as 160 are from Mangaluru, 36 from Bantwal, 14 from Puttur and 42 from Sullia, 21 from Beltangady and 24 are from outside DK district.
All the seven patients who died on Thursday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported five deaths, two deaths was reported from districts outside DK.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,426 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 80 fresh admissions on Thursday, while a total of 4,480 people are in home isolation, including 129 new on Thursday.
As many as 8,197 people, including 214 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,245 from hospital isolation wards, and 2,952 from home isolation.
A total of 68,787 samples have been collected so far, including 969 on Thursday, out of which 461 are COVID suspects and 220 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 57,091 have turned out to be negative, including 708 on Thursday, and 783 reports are awaited.
As many as 10,913 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 209 on Thursday, and 2,623 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 93 deaths have occurred so far, including one on Thursday.
Among the 209 new cases, 106 are in Udupi, 50 in Kundapur, 45 in Karkala, and eight from outside the district. Among them, 78 acquired the virus through contacts, 62 have ILI, three have been diagnosed with SARI, and 60 are under investigation. Six patients have domestic travel history. Out of the 209 cases, 130 are asymptomatic.
The lone death reported is of a male aged 72 from Udupi. The patient had co-morbidities.
