Beltangady, Aug 27: In connection with the murder of taxi driver Vasu Saphalya (66), by his own son here when he was on a stroll, Vasu's son, Dayanand (32), who has been accused of committing this murder, was arrested by the police. Dayanand was taken into custody from near State Bank in Mangaluru on the night of Wednesday August 26.
Saphalya was on his walking routine on August 24 when he was done to death by hitting his head and neck region with a sickle. After the murder, Vasu's third son, Dayanand, had gone missing. Therefore, the police had strong suspicion about his involvement with this murder.

Dayanand, after killing his father on the road, had bagged a job as taxi driver near Kadri Kambla, Mangaluru. A police team led by Beltangady police circle inspector Sandesh P G, who happens to be the investigating officer in this case, which gathered this information, went in search of Dayanand. After a search stretching to two days, Dayanand was found and taken into custody on Wednesday night from State Bank area in Mangaluru.
During the preliminary investigation by the police, Dayanand reportedly confessed that he was the culprit in this murder case. He said that he got angry at his father for scolding him on some issue and therefore killed him. The police are continuing with their probe.
