Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 24: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Monday August 24 recorded 201 new coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi recorded 103 new cases and five deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 10,531 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,297 are currently active. A total of 83,598 samples have been tested so far, out of which 73,067 are negative.
As many as 7,918 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 241 on Monday. A total of 316 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Monday.
Among the 201 new cases, 70 have influenza-like illness (ILI), nine have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 49 are primary contacts, and 72 cases are under investigation. One patient has domestic travel history. As many as 128 out of the 201 are asymptomatic.
Out of the 201 cases, as many as 144 are from Mangaluru, 22 from Bantwal, 7 from Beltangady, 5 each from Puttur and Sullia and 18 are from outside DK district.
All the six patients who died on Monday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, Bantwal reported two and one death was reported from district outside DK.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,169 people are in COVID hospitals/care centers, including 31 fresh admissions on Monday, while a total of 4,060 people are in home isolation, including 72 new on Monday.
As many as 7,557 people, including 156 on Monday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,061 from hospital isolation wards, and 2,496 from home isolation.
A total of 65,306 samples have been collected so far, including 414 on Monday, out of which 209 are COVID suspects and 11 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 54,113 have turned out to be negative, including 684 on Monday, and 957 reports are awaited.
As many as 10,236 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 103 on Monday, and 2,590 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 89 deaths have occurred so far, including five on Monday.
Among the 103 new cases, 50 are in Udupi, 19 in Kundapur, 26 in Karkala, and eight from outside the district. Among them, 52 acquired the virus through contacts, 23 have ILI, two have been diagnosed with SARI, and 25 are under investigation. One patient has domestic travel history. Out of the 103 cases, 75 are asymptomatic.
The five deaths reported are two females aged 85 and another female aged 49, all from Karkala, and two males from Udupi aged 55 and 75. All the five patients had comorbidities.
