Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 23: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 23 recorded 193 fresh coronavirus cases and five deaths, while Udupi recorded 117 cases and two deaths.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 10,330 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,343 are currently active. A total of 83,173 samples have been tested so far, out of which 72,843 are negative.
As many as 7,677 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 164 on Sunday. A total of 310 deaths have occured so far, including five on Sunday.
Among the 193 new cases, 105 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 8 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 45 are primary contacts, and 34 cases are under investigation. One patient has domestic travel history. As many as 85 out of the 193 are asymptomatic.
Out of the 193 cases, as many as 130 are from Mangaluru, 21 from Bantwal, 8 from Beltangady, 6 from Puttur, 19 from Sullia and 9 are from outside DK district.
All the five patients who died on Sunday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, Bantwal reported two.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,138 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 46 fresh admissions on Sunday, while a total of 3,988 people are in home isolation, including 71 new on Sunday.
As many as 7,401 people, including 309 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,004 from hospital isolation wards, and 2,397 from home isolation.
A total of 64,892 samples have been collected so far, including 967 on Sunday, out of which 118 are COVID suspects and 140 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 53,429 have turned out to be negative, including 372 on Sunday, and 1,330 reports are awaited.
As many as 10,133 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 117 on Sunday, and 2,648 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 84 deaths have occured so far, including two on Sunday.
Among the 117 new cases, 58 are in Udupi, 35 in Kundapur, 20 in Karkala, and four from outside the district. Among them, 68 acquired the virus through contacts, 30 have ILI, four have been diagnosed with SARI, and 14 are under investigation. One patient has domestic travel history. Out of the 117 cases, 78 are asymptomatic.
The two deaths reported are of a 42-year-old male from Udupi and a 73-year-old male from Karkala. Both of them had commorbidities.
