Mumbai, Mar 23: A symposium on Karnataka’s culture, distinct traditions, practices and releasing of literary books were held at Kalina complex, Santacruz (East), here on Saturday March 20.
It was jointly organized by Kannada department of Mumbai University, Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Bangalore and Karnataka Janapad Academy, Bangalore.
Eminent litterateur K Satyanarayan inaugurated the programme. He said that litterateurs have the great responsibilities, who are expected to create a vision that could last at least in a generation. He expressed concern over the dwindling reading habit of people
Dr M S Patil, professor of Gulbarga University, Sahitya Academy member Dr Gurulingappa Dabale Akkalakote, Dharwad story writer Professor Sangamanath Lokapura presented lectures. Swami Gurusiddayya, Eshwar Alevoor and Niranjan C S spoke on the topic.
Bharath Polipu read the foreword of Dr G N Upadya, head of department of Kannada - Mumbai University authored Kannada book ‘Karnataka Samskruti Hejje Hadhi.’ Suman Chiplunkar briefed on Dr Mradula Kirloskar authored English book ‘Karnataka Kashida’. Both the books were released on the occasion.
Dr G N Upadya welcomed the gathering. Jyothi Devadiga proposed the vote of thanks. Mariyappa Natekar, Poornima Shetty and Shivaraj K compered the programme. Veena Shastry presented Sugam Sangeet on the occasion.
