Brahmavar, Aug 22: In a major haul, Udupi DCIB police on Saturday August 22 confiscated 49 kg of ganja near Heroor here.
Interestingly, the drug traffickers were quite innovative in their approach, concealing ganja inside bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoots were being trasported in a container lorry.
It is learnt that 49 kg of ganja was being transported from Uttar Pradesh to the coastal Karnataka region.
Based on credible information, the DCIB police intercepted the container lorry at Heroor, and on inspection, found ganja concealed in a large quantity of bamboo shoots.
The lorry driver and his accomplice were taken into custody.
The arrested have been identified as Karuthapandy (40) from Tamil Nadu, and Vanu Haldar (30) from West Bengal, who is currently residing at Udyavar here. They were assisted by Gopal Sarkar alias Pinky and Sanjay Sarkar, both from West Bengal.
DCIB inspector Manjappa, ASI Ravichandra, Santosh Kunder, Ramu Hegde, Dayanand, Rajkumar, Chandra Shetty, Suresh, Raghavendra and Shivananda were part of the arrest operation.
