Brahmavar: 49 kg of ganja concealed in bamboo smuggled from UP, two arrested

Brahmavar, Aug 22: In a major haul, Udupi DCIB police on Saturday August 22 confiscated 49 kg of ganja near Heroor here.

Interestingly, the drug traffickers were quite innovative in their approach, concealing ganja inside bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoots were being trasported in a container lorry.

It is learnt that 49 kg of ganja was being transported from Uttar Pradesh to the coastal Karnataka region.

Based on credible information, the DCIB police intercepted the container lorry at Heroor, and on inspection, found ganja concealed in a large quantity of bamboo shoots.

The lorry driver and his accomplice were taken into custody.

The arrested have been identified as Karuthapandy (40) from Tamil Nadu, and Vanu Haldar (30) from West Bengal, who is currently residing at Udyavar here. They were assisted by Gopal Sarkar alias Pinky and Sanjay Sarkar, both from West Bengal.

DCIB inspector Manjappa, ASI Ravichandra, Santosh Kunder, Ramu Hegde, Dayanand, Rajkumar, Chandra Shetty, Suresh, Raghavendra and Shivananda were part of the arrest operation.

    Many experts feel while Marijuana may not be very harmful by itself, many marijuana users slide down into drug abuse... Pot (i.e. marijuana) is considered as "stepping stone to drug abuse"...

    Marijuana is legal in 9 states...

    that means, it is illegal in 41 states, an overwhelming majority of states in the US consider Marijuana illegal.

    Then why India has to legalise it?

    Mangalurians / coastal people feel that migrants come here for jobs, labour, livelihood etc. etc.

    These people migrated from W Bengal and living in Udyavar to do ganja business and to ruin families in the coastal belt...

    Marijuana was legal in India until 1985. It’s American govt to support their Ciggarate business started asking for Ban on Ganja since 1961. Though India initially did not accept it as Ganja was part of indian tradition and it had huge acceptability in Ayurveda also. but, in 1985 it was completely banned by Rajiv Gandhi. High time it must be legalised in India as it has much less health issues than Ciggarate , Alchohol or even Gutka.

    I hope one day cannabis( ganja or marijuana) is legalised. I really don't know what is the ill effect of consuming ganja except medical benefits. Here is US 9 states have made it legal and in Canada it's also legal to grow. Hope our government amends the law or at least treat the case as non-violet offence.
    Remember "India gave Ganja to the world". Ganja smoking people are more creative, look at Bob Marley, Elon Musk etc. No one has died from ganja. People have died from Alcohol and it has destroyed families.

    Indian criminals are highly innovative !! Drugs hidden inside bamboo shoots is really incredible !!! Gold also is systematically brought in Consulate baggage, in Kerala !!! This explicitly reveals the huge demand, for gold and narcotics, the carriers, are one step ahead, willing to take any risks to keep the supply chain running !!!

    What an intelligent method !!!

    Nobody suspected it till they reached Brahmmavar ??? Who knows how many part deliveries they made before reaching here ?? Bamboo grows abundantly in Karnataka. Why would anyone bring it from UP ?
