Mangalore, Mar 23: Prasanna Kumar, president of Karnataka state Janata Party, who has been on fast unto death demanding immediate repair of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of the national highway 48 between the city and Bangalore, was admitted into the local government Wenlock Hospital on Monday March 22, after his health deteriorated.
Kumar, who is in the hospital, said that he is determined to continue his fast till the district deputy commissioner or union road transport minister, Kamal Nath, visit him in the hospital and give a concrete assurance about the road repairs. “If the road is not repaired within a month, we will step up our agitation through measures like road blockade etc., and all our agitations will adhere to the Gandhian principles, he claimed.
As Kumar had not consumed even water since the last three days, he exhibited symptoms of dehydration, and is being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital. He was given glucose at the hospital, and the hospital authorities said that other than the symptoms of fatigue due to fasting, no other complications were noticed in him.
