Mangaluru, Aug 20: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Thursday August 20 recorded 177 new cases and six deaths. In yet another spike, as many as 349 fresh cases were reported in Udupi along with two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 9,712 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,287 are currently active. As many as 7,129 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 187 on Thursday which includes seven from Covid care centres, 145 from home isolation and 35 from hospitals. A total of 296 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Thursday.
Among the 177 new cases, 88 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 17 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 29 are primary contacts, and 43 are under investigation.
Out of the 177 cases, as many as 107 are from Mangaluru, 14 from Bantwal, 16 from Puttur, 12 each from Sullia and Beltangady, and 16 are from outside DK district. As many as 92 of the cases are symptomatic while 85 are asymptomatic.
All patients who died on Thursday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, one death was from Bantwal and two deaths were from outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,910 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 132 fresh admissions on Thursday, while a total of 3,473 people are in home isolation, including 217 new on Thursday.
As many as 6,492 people, including 360 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 4,595 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,897 from home isolation.
A total of 61,251 samples have been collected so far, including 2,078 on Thursday, out of which 1,153 are COVID suspects and 473 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 50,768 have turned out to be negative, including 1,336 on Thursday, and 1,093 reports are awaited.
As many as 9,390 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 349 on Thursday, and 2,818 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 80 deaths have occurred so far including two on Thursday – a 56-year-old female from Karkala and a 69-year-old female from Udupi. Both the patients had comorbidities.
Among the 349 new cases, 162 are in Udupi, 100 in Kundapur, 76 in Karkala, and 11 from outside the district. Among them, 130 acquired the virus through contacts, 137 have ILI, 12 has SARI and 63 are under investigation. Six have domestic travelling history and one has international travelling history.
