Mangaluru, Aug 20: Justice A V Chandrashekhar Bengaluru and Pradeep Kumar Panja Bengaluru have been appointed as additional directors of prestigious private sector Karnataka Bank having its head office in the city. These appointments were made at the meeting of the board of directors of the bank held on Wednesday, August 19.
Justice A V Chandrashekhar has retired after serving as state high court judge. He has also served as the member judge of Karnataka Administrative Tribunal. After starting his professional career as an advocate in 1984, he later served as additional district and sessions judge, district chief sessions judge etc in different districts. He also was the member secretary of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and director of Karnataka Judicial Academy. He was the director of Bengaluru Mediation Centre. He became high court judge of the state in 2013 and served for a period of three years.
Pradeep Kumar Panja has rich experience in the banking sector. He retired as managing director of the corporate banking department of Bank of India in 2015. He also has been serving as the member of the board of directors of software, cement, real estate, and other companies.
Karnataka Bank managing director and chief executive officer, Mahabaleshwar M S, speaking on the occasion, said that as per rule, the board of directors of a bank should have a minimum of 33.33% independent directors. He said that with the appointment of two new directors, Karnataka Bank has 72 per cent independent directors which he said, shows the importance given by the bank to institutional administration.
