Chamarajanagar: Unable to access online classes, 15-year-old girl kills herself

Chamarajanagar, Aug 19 (IANS): A 15-year-old girl committed suicide in Sagade in Chamarajanagar district, purportedly for not being able to afford a smartphone to attend online classes, an official said on Tuesday. The police are probing the smartphone angle.

"A 15-year-old girl committed suicide in Chamarajanagar's Sagade village for unknown reasons; we are investigating the matter," a police officer told IANS.

The young girl consumed pesticide on Monday and succumbed to its poisoning at the government hospital at around 7 p.m.

She was studying in Class X at the Sagade government school.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death.

"The parents of the deceased girl gave a written complaint about the suicide and we are investigating whether the stated reason for the suicide is true," he said.

According to the police, both the parents, Rajesh and Padma, are in their mid 40s and workk as labourers.

Though the version that the girl committed suicide because her parents could not buy her a smartphone is doing the rounds, the police are not endorsing it for now, saying the truth will come out only after the investigation.

    RIP.
Without smartphone people have lived in the past and studied with borrowed books and what not? There are Sun's CMEs, are on the rise these years. One major CME can bring down satellite communications, might effect electronic communication as well. So depending solely on technology also bad And as such misuse of mobile, addiction on the rise, mobile games and other evils. One never knows God might fix technology as wel. So self - control and looking into alternative options are always better and useful in the time of need.

Very sad to see that our youngstes are taking their lives for very silly reasons. Our misplaced priorities by the leadership and people in power during these testing times is one of the main cause for these kind of suicides by youngsers. But question is who cares.......???

Wish teachers were trained to address student grievances , and also students in distress must be educated to be confident and comfortable in reporting issues to the teachers or Police or local gram panchayat leaders.

Very true, they are still young to understand that the life is given by God, as coming from lower income basic necessities comes first than spiritual understanding at this age. We have our minister who can travel by Branded cars and own helicopter and flights with tax payer money who suppose to be the public servant but enjoy as corporate owners. They even play cards between human and animals for politics. But when it comes to address poor children’s concerns nobody speaks. Its we the common people have to RISE above caste/ religion/majority /minority level when we select our leader and their accomplishment of promises for the society .
