Mangaluru, Aug 18: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Tuesday August 18 recorded 279 new cases and nine deaths. In a major spike, as many as 421 fresh cases, its single-day high ever, was reported in Udupi.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 9,301 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,188 are currently active. As many as 6,827 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 173 on Tuesday which includes six from Covid care centres, 111 from home isolation and 56 from hospitals. A total of 286 deaths have occurred so far, including eight on Tuesday.
Among the 279 new cases, 114 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 18 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 65 are primary contacts, and 82 are under investigation.
Out of the 279 cases, as many as 163 are from Mangaluru, 49 from Bantwal, 25 from Puttur, 10 from Sullia, 15 from Beltangady and 17 are from outside DK district. As many as 138 of the cases are symptomatic while 141 are asymptomatic.
All patients except one who died on Tuesday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, Bantwal reported one death, and five deaths were from outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,685 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 126 fresh admissions on Tuesday, while a total of 2,974 people are in home isolation, including 295 new on Tuesday.
As many as 5,951 people, including 321 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 4,300 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,651 from home isolation.
A total of 57,576 samples have been collected so far, including 1,837 on Tuesday, out of which 1,098 are COVID suspects and 327 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 47,824 have turned out to be negative, including 1,200 on Tuesday, and 1,086 reports are awaited.
As many as 8,666 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 421 on Tuesday, and 2,637 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 78 deaths have occurred so far.
Among the 421 new cases, 203 are in Udupi, 158 in Kundapur, 50 in Karkala, and 10 from outside the district. Among them, 150 acquired the virus through contacts, 90 have ILI, 17 has SARI and 158 are under investigation. Six have domestic travelling history.
