Mangaluru, Aug 18: Theft occurred at a house near the government hospital at Karnad, Mulky, on Sunday when the family members were away for a day.
Kalbande House is a building located near the government hospital at Karnad. Two families normally live there. One of the families had left for Ullal 12 days back. The other family had left for Mangaluru on Saturday night. The family realised that their house was burgled on Sunday evening.
The bolt of the rear door was forced open with the help of an axe. The thieves sifted through six almirahs and searched for cash and gold. They also strew around things stuffed into a table drawer of the front room and two suitcases kept inside an almirah. They had thrown away valuable documents found in the almirah outside the house. About four sovereigns of gold ornaments were stolen, whereas imitation jewellery in the almirahs were left untouched.
The walls of the house bear marks created by the palms of two people. It is suspected that a gang of four to five persons would have committed this theft. It is almost clear that known people were involved, as they used the opportunity when both families were not present.
There is a CCTV camera near this house. But two days earlier, the shopkeeper who had installed the CCTV camera had changed the direction of the camera just two days ago.
Mulky police visited the spot and conducted spot inspection.
