Bangalore, Mar 20 (DHNS): Storm over the IPL tickets raged at the Legislative Council on Friday with members demanding that future matches of the Royal Challengers Bangalore be cancelled.
Legislators who had originally taken exception about the organisers giving them tickets worth only Rs 49 were once again annoyed about the organisers replying to sections of the media instead of responding to them directly. The Chairman of the House Veeranna Mathikatti eventually referred the matter to the Privileges Committee of the Legislature.
Further some members labelled IPL as a money making venture that was using the resources of the State but was not according any respect to its language or culture. The Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority Mukhyamantri Chandru in particular reacted angrily to the lack of importance given to the Kannada language by the organisers. MLCs Siddaraju and M P Nadagouda demanded that the matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium be stopped till the organisers appeared before the committee.
Leader of the Opposition Motamma and senior JD(S) MLC M C Nanaiah too said that the organisers showed complete disrespect to the State and its people by disrespecting the Legislature.
