Mangalore, Mar 20: Savil Mascarenhas is a businessman by profession, a youth leader, social worker and a familiar voice for the Konkan community of the region. Singing has been his hobby.
He hails from Vittal, but has now settled down in Milagres, Mangalore. He is a great fan of Dr Prashanth Raj. He met Dr Prashanth at Vamanjoor Church, when he was temporarily staying at Vamanjoor, and having been inspired by Dr Prashanth, he joined the Church choir at Vamanjoor and explored his singing talents. He participated in a good number of singing competitions held in and around the city and won several prizes.
After that, he was invited to sing for the cassettes.
As of now, he has sung for more than ten devotional cassettes (Fr Walter's Moddlolo Undo, Mai Tu Mogalli, Balidan, Mettam, and Kannada devotional cassettes, Aaradisona and Saanidya Keertans). So, both himself and Dr Prashanth have jointly ventured to produce 'Tujya Gharanth', a cassette of Konkani devotional songs, on the occassion of the first death anniversary of the late Everest Mascarenhas, Vittal.
Dr Prashanth Raj is a well known Konkani singer of Mangalore. From his childhood days he has been taking active part in many Inter School, Inter Collegiate, District Level, State Level, National Level Competitions in Eastern Music and Hindustani vocals. He has studied Hindustani Vocal Singing at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan under Guru Kamalakar Shet, Gangolli.
His singing career began at a very young age of 7 under the guidance of Konkani Kala Rathn Eric Ozario. First he sang for the Paradela Nite. Soon his popularity shot up and his voice was much in demand for recording Konkani devotional songs. He has sung for the famous Konkani cassettes produced by Fr Alwyn Sequeira(Carmalite), Fr Walter D'Souza, Fr J B Sequeria (Capuchin) Fr Harrry(Capuchin) Fr Clement Mascarenhas and Fr Valerian Mendonca, Fr Abel, Fr Joseph Mascarenhas and Fr Francis Rodrigues (Raknno).
Most of the songs sung by Dr Prashanth have become hit in Konkani Music.
