Udupi, Aug 15: Nearly 20% rise is noticed in the admissions in Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) (government English medium school) of the district.
In total 578 students have got admitted to these schools in LKG and First grade. Out of 578, 133 in Udupi, 167 in Kundapur, 57 in Byndoor and 82 have joined KPS in Brahmavar.
Admissions are in progress in some more schools. Parents are keen to get their wards, who were studying in private and Kannada medium schools, to KPS. Nearly 10% of students have joined newly to first grade in the current academic year as per the information provided by officials of the education department.

Teachers are recruited in proportion to the students in KPS schools. Well-equipped classrooms, laboratory, separate computer lab, standard library, clean drinking water, playground and separate washrooms for boys and girls are provided in KPS.
DDPI Sheshanayana Karinja said, "The number of admissions has increased in government English medium schools this year. This is the first step towards protecting government schools from extinction. Presently, there is an opportunity to take 30 students in KPS. However, we are taking 40 students now due to pressure from parents."
There are 599 higher primary schools in the district. Out of these eight were selected as KPS. The proposal is sent to convert eight more into KPS as per the information provided by the DDPI.
