Mangalore, Mar 19: Upon producing them in the court by the policemen on Thursday March 18, a local court remanded the 11 aides of Chota Shakeel, who were assigned the task of eliminating some men close to Ravi Poojary, another underworld fugitive, to judicial custody till March 30.
In the meantime, the personnel of Urwa police station also approached the court with an application for handing over four most important criminals out of these 11, to their custody for further interrogation. The court, which heard the plea on Thursday on this request, reserved its verdict for Friday.
The policemen, who arrested 11 persons on Wednesday March 17, and confiscated vehicles, arms and a huge amount of cash from them, allege that the 11 arrested are the henchmen of Chota Shakeel, and that they were given the task of murdering four people loyal to Ravi Poojary, and to extort money from rich persons from the city by making threatening calls to them thereafter. Chota Shakeel, it is said, is upset by the increasing clout of Ravi Poojary in the city, after his close accomplice, Rashid Malbari, was arrested by the policemen in a murder case last year.
