Bengaluru, Aug 14: The police investigation has established that the people who forced themselves into Kadugondanahalli (K G Halli) police station on Tuesday night and vandalised the area, duly expressing anger about an alleged Facebook (FB) post containing sacrilegious material about Prophet, were activists of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Miscreants had run amok and given rise to disturbances in Kaval Byrasandra where MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy resides, D J Halli, and K G Halli. The police have registered separate cases in these three police stations. First information reports against 317 persons have been registered.

In the case of attacking K G Halli police station and burning down vehicles parked in front of the station, 17 SDPI activists including Abbas, Firoze, Muzammil Pasha, Habib, Peer Pasha, Jia, Qaleem, Kerchief Sadiq, Jave and Mujju have been named as accused. Inspector of the station, Ajai Sarathi, had filed the complaint.

In respect of barging into Devarajeevana Halli (DJ Halli) police station, smashing the window glasses and torching of the vehicles, a first information report (FIR) against 300 persons including SDPI leaders has been registered. The FIR mentions names of Afnan from Shivajinagar, Muzammil Pasha, Syed Masood, Ayaz, Allabux, Jaffer, and Wajid as the main accused. They had allegedly formed gangs, forced their entry into the police station, and tried to snatch away arms from the police. They have been also accused of breaking the glasses of the building and torching a car and motorbike before going on a riot.

The gang has been accused of assaulting inspector Keshavamurthy, another personnel Sridhar, and others. Keshavamurthy has registered suo motu case.

A case against Naveen, who has been accused of sharing an objectionable post, stands registered in DJ Halli station. The police had arrested him. As thousands of people had gathered in front of their station, the police had shifted him to KG Halli station located about one and half km away. The accused, who came to know about this, ganged up against the police duly armed, and came together in front of K G Halli station at about 11 pm. They had shouted at the police, seeking to hand Naveen over to them so that they could teach him a lesson.

The police told them that the arrested accused would be produced in the court but the accused charged the police for not allowing them to kill Naveen. They raised slogans, asking the gang members to teach the police a lesson. When police sub-inspector Rajesh, and constable Manjunath, tried to stop them, they were attacked and murder attempt was made, it is said. The gangsters pelted stones at the station and torched vehicles. As the disturbances went out of control, the police fired at the crowd at which one collapsed on the spot and died. Thereafter, the crowd dispersed, as per the FIR.

P Naveen, who has been arrested for posting sacrilegious post, shared another post in his FB account on Thursday. This gave rise to doubts. Based on a complaint made by Firdous Pasha, the police had arrested him on Tuesday night. Naveen had informed the police that his mobile phone was lost three days back, and that his FB account had been hacked. His mother has also been supporting these claims.

In the meanwhile, a post reportedly made by BJP leader Murugesh Nirani, about the god, was shared from Naveen's account. When questioned, a police officer said investigation is continuing. Another police officer said that they will find out whether Naveen, who is in police custody, is using his mobile or someone else has been operating his account.
