Mangaluru: Network problem for online classes - Children use bus stand

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 11: People normally think Dakshina Kannada as a district of intelligent people and that the district is developed. However, the going is not easy for the children here when schools and colleges are closed and they have to depend on online classes.

A large portion of this district is covered by hilly terrain and forests. Therefore naturally the students face mobile network problems. Students in bigger cities like Mangaluru have already been attending online classes. But for the rural students, attending the online classes poses a huge challenge.

For example, students at Palethadi in Uppinangady village, Puttur taluk, have adopted a bus stand as their classroom. Several students from the regions reach the bus stand in the morning to attend online classes. As the classes will be on till afternoon, they also bring their chairs with them. As this bus stand does not witness too many passengers, they do not face problems on that front.

These students walk a couple of kilometres in forest road to reach the bus stand. Once the classes are over in the afternoon, they return to their homes.

None of the networks including BSNL work in their villages. These students know that similar problems exist in other villages too. Therefore, they have got adjusted to this routine.

BSNL and Broad Band and MESCOM are a good team of companies
for E-learning. Power supply is cut off a hundred times a day, and at
nights too when electricity is a requirement to light up homes. Internet
speed is simply good for nothing. BSNL and MESCOM are not run by
professional managements, as one can see by their poor services.
Children simply cannot study on line with such poor quality services.

Cannot say Mangalore, Udupi, or Karnataka on the whole is developed.
unless some one defines Developmemt to present standards in the world.

Telecom companies are busy advertising that theirs is the fastest and cheapest mobile network. They are not bothered to see that the signal availability is improved. Even in city like Bangalore there are pockets where the signal is poor or does not come at all. It is high time Govt introduces some regulations on network quality.

as a business, no one shall install and maintain a tower for 5 to 10 houses. Local govt representatives have to be innovative to help local people. Right now most of the chor only filled up in every govt department from previous chor govt.

I have a suggestion. Can't we users who have broadband connection at home help those who can't afford a connection by sharing their bandwidth ( maintaining all norms applicable for the current pandemic) . I am pretty sure most of the broadband users never utilize their whole allotted quota. It's a open forum for discussion please share your feedback.
Request daijiworld to start a forum were like minds can share their intrest and a location database be created for DK so those students in need can take the benifits.

If children have to assemble at a common place, then schools are safer. Its the responsibility of administration & elected representatives to address these glitches whereas they are throwing new issues every day
