Mangalore, Mar 17: Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP) organized a training programme for those contesting the forthcoming gram panchayat elections at Kadri Hills, recently.
More than 70 prospective candidates, especially women, participated in the training programme.
Fr Onil D’Souza, director of CODP, along with resource person Veronica Cornelio, inaugurated the programme.
Veronica elaborated on the important aspects of contesting gram panchayat elections, qualification, and documental proof, while filing nomination papers. She also spoke on the recently passed Women’s Reservation Bill and encouraged the women members to make best use of the opportunities provided to them.
The group actively participated in the programme by interacting with the resource person and clarifying their doubts.
Shankar Shetty welcomed the gathering while Tharanath proposed the vote of thanks. Ivan Menezes compered the programme.
