Bengaluru, Aug 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday August 9 unveiled a special package of Rs 1 lac crore for farmers on the occasion of Balaram Jayanti or Hal Shashti.
Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa tweeted on the matter, "PM @narendramodi Govt believes India's future lies in the welfare of its farmers. Thanks to @PMOIndia for #PMKISAN Scheme which has benefited over 52.50 lakh farmers in Karnataka, the first instalment Rs 1,049 crore will now be credited into their accounts."
Further, state agriculture minister B C Patil also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for selecting Karnataka for launching the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund of Rs 1 lac crore and releasing Rs 17,000 crore under PM Kisan scheme.
Patil tweeted saying, "I express my sincere gratitude to our Honourable PM for identifying Ugane PACS in Hassan District of Karnataka for interaction."
Patil assured the Prime Minister of effective execution of Aatma Nirbhar Abhiyan Scheme in Karnataka, laying special focus on the application of Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) and PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme in association with NABARD and other government departments.
The package announced is said to help in the progress of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies, Agri-entrepreneurs in building community farming assets and post-harvest agriculture infrastructure.
The government regarding the package maintained that the farmers will be able to avail a greater value for their produce. It will help in reducing wastage, sale of produce at a higher price and increase processing and value addition for the farmers and their produce.
