Brahmavar: Heavy rains inundate fields, officials take precautionary measures

Brahmavar, Aug 9: Brahmvar tahsildar paid a visit to various parts of the taluk to assess the widespread destruction caused due to incessant rains lashing the taluk and the district for the past few days.

Paddy fields of Kudubettu and Hairebettu of Uppoor village of the taluk are inundated but no damage has been caused to houses.


Madisalu rivulet in Belmaru of Aroor village of the taluk is flowing at full level and the water has entered the nearby paddy fields. There are six residential houses in this area. As of now the houses are safe. Boats have been arranged for the residents to reach the main road which is at a distance of 200 meters from the houses. The tahsildar's contact number has been provided to all the residents to call in case of emergency.

Bavalikudru area near Sita river of Nilavar village of the taluk is also prone to floods. There are six houses here and so far they are not facing any flood situation. Boats have been arranged for them, and they too have been given contact number number to call in case of any emergency. Nandana Kudru, Sahebara Kudru and Ramana Kudru under the same village also were inspected by the tahsildar. These areas too are so far safe.

Herman D'Souza, reisdent of Baikady village of the taluk had informed the tahsildar that water around his house had reached waist level. When the tahsildar visited and inspected, the water level was only upto ankle level and there is no issue as of now. His wife's house is in Heroor village. He has been asked to shift to Heroor village for the time being.

The tahsildar also inspected sea erosion at Kota Hobali Kodi village of the taluk. As of now there is no danger. Locals were made to understand the situation. Sea erosion issue at Kota Hobali Manoor village was also inspected. Only a road is slightly damaged. The locals were taken into confidence and asked to remain calm.

Water logging at Janatha Colony road of Shiriyara village under Kota Hobali was also inspected by the tahsildar. He instructed the panchayat development officer to get a drainage constructed to facilitate smooth flow of water.

Residents of three houses at flood-prone area at Shiriya village of Kota Hobali in the taluk were asked to shift to safer place as a precautionary measure.

Rain fury continued on Saturday, August 8 in the district. People living in low lying areas are in a state of worry. Alongwith floods, people living in Keelinje area of Brahmavar taluk are facing the scare of attack by cow stealers. In an incident that occurred at the house of Kadya Shetty, the cow thieves could not steal the cow from the shed as it was pregnant. Such incidents are recurring since some weeks and farmers who are dependent on dairy for their livelihood are passing their days under anxiety and tension.
