Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 8: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Saturday August 8 reported 194 new coronavirus cases and six deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi recorded yet another day of steep hike with 314 new cases and five deaths were reported in the district.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 7,075 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,374 are currently active. As many as 3,487 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 183 on Saturday. A total of 214 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Saturday.
Among the 194 new cases, 98 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 12 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 15 are primary contacts, and 69 are under investigation.
Out of the 194 cases, as many as 129 are from Mangaluru, 15 from Bantwal, 16 from Beltangady, 16 from Puttur, seven from Sullia and 11 are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 4,942, Moodbidri 98, Mulky 91, Bantwal 667, Beltangady 366, Puttur 345, Kadaba 55, and Sullia 90. As many as 421 cases so far are from outside DK district.
All six patients who died on Saturday are from Mangaluru and all of them had comorbidities.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, as many as 5,919 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 314 on Saturday. As many as 3,347 patients have been discharged so far, including 89 on Saturday, and 2,512 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 60 deaths have occurred so far including five on Saturday.
The five deaths on Saturday include a 76-year-old male from Udupi who had COVID positive with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The second was a 50-year-old female from Udupi who had COVID positive with pneumonia septic shock, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, severe metabolic acidosis, and thrombocytopenia. The third was a 77-year-old male from Udupi who had COVID positive with hypertension, and ischemic heart disease. The fourth was a 65-year-old male from Udupi who had COVID positive with chronic kidney disease. The fifth was a 56-year-old male from Kundapur who had COVID positive with ischemic heart disease.
Among the 314 new cases, 192 are in Udupi, 87 in Kundapur, 30 in Karkala, and five from outside the district. As many as 80 cases symptomatic and 226 asymptomatic. Among them, 164 are male and 150 female out of which 156 have contracted infection from primary contacts, 69 have ILI symptoms, six have SARI symptoms, 79 are under investigation, and four have domestic travelling history. Out of the 314, 203 have been admitted to COVID care centre, designated COVID hospital, and designated COVID health hospital and 111 are under home isolation.
A total of 43,411 samples have been collected so far, including 2,030 on Saturday, out of which 1,265 are COVID suspects and 261 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 35,982 have turned out to be negative, including 1,379 on Saturday, and 1,540 reports are awaited.
