Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 7: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Friday August 7 reported 166 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi recorded another day of steep hike with 245 new cases and five deaths were reported in the district.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 6,881 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,369 are currently active. As many as 3,304 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 188 on Friday. A total of 208 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Friday.
Among the 166 new cases, 83 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 13 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 19 are primary contacts, and 51 are under investigation.
Out of the 166 cases, as many as 74 are from Mangaluru, 25 from Bantwal, 36 from Beltangady, 13 from Puttur, one from Sullia and 17 are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 4,813, Moodbidri 98, Mulky 91, Bantwal 652, Beltangady 350, Puttur 329, Kadaba 55, and Sullia 83. As many as 410 cases so far are from outside DK district.
Among the seven patients who died on Friday, five are from Mangaluru, one from Puttur and one from Beltangady. All the seven patients had comorbidities.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, as many as 5,605 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 245 on Friday. As many as 3,258 patients have been discharged so far, including 101 on Friday, and 2,292 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 55 deaths have occurred so far including five on Friday.
The five deaths on Friday include a 78-year-old female from Udupi who had COVID positive with diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, chronic kidney disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, hypertension, and ischemic heart disease. The second was a 49-year-old male from Karkala who had COVID positive with diabetes mellitus type-2, coronary heart disease, acute coronary syndrome, sepsis staphylococcus, and pneumonia. The third was a 75-year-old male from Kundapur who had COVID positive with ischemic heart disease. The fourth was a 70-year-old man from Kundapur who had COVID positive with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, chronic kidney disease. The fifth was a 65-year-old male from Kundapur who had COVID positive with hypertension, and diabetes mellitus type-2.
Among the 245 new cases, 125 are in Udupi, 92 in Kundapur, 25 in Karkala, and three from outside the district. As many as 70 cases symptomatic and 175 asymptomatic. Among them, 125 are male and 120 female out of which 91 have contracted infection from primary contacts, 57 have ILI symptoms, five have SARI symptoms, 86 are under investigation, five have domestic travelling history and one has international travelling history. Out of the 245, 15 have been admitted to COVID care centre, 120 to designated COVID hospital, 21 to designated COVID health hospital and 89 are under home isolation.
A total of 41,411 samples have been collected so far, including 1,357 on Friday, out of which 928 are COVID suspects and 241 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 34,603 have turned out to be negative, including 1,148 on Friday, and 1,203 reports are awaited.
