Mumbai, Aug 7: A concrete slab of a two-storeyed 35-year-old building collapsed injuring two persons in the early morning of Friday, August 7. The incident happened near Khartan Road in Thane after the incessant overnight rains.
Numerous incidents were reported throughout the city of uprooting of trees, damaging houses and residential areas as a result of the rains. However, no casualties were reported so far.
Meena Solanki, aged 30 was hurt in the incident as her right arm was injured. Praveen Solanki (16) sustained injuries on her head and right ear. Both are undergoing treatment at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa.
“The concrete slab fell on two persons, who were sleeping, inside a room in a building located next to Thane College. The civic authorities have been asked to repair the building,” chief, regional disaster management cell, Thane, Santosh Kadam said .
A resident of Khartan Road who witnessed the incident said, “We heard a loud thud, but initially, couldn’t make out where it was coming from. Later, we found that the concrete slab had fallen on two persons, who were sleeping in a room.”
