Udupi, Aug 6: Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Udyavar Golden Jubilee Festival Committee held a programme titled ‘Vanamahotsava in Every House’ with the cooperation of Catholic Sabha Udyavar unit on August 2.
The committee as part of its 18th programme planted saplings in 540 houses in the parish with the family members under the motto 'let us protect the environment and grow plants.'
Chancellor of Udupi diocese, parish priest of St Francis Xavier church, Fr Stany B Lobo and assistant parish priest Fr Rolvin Aranha planted saplings in the church premises and set the programme in motion. Fr Lobo said that the creation of awareness about the environment during corona scare is an excellent development. “We have the responsibility of protecting nature that is bestowed by God to us. Man destroys the environment for his selfishness. Therefore, he suffers from several illnesses. We have the responsibility to find a solution for it. ICYM Udyavar Golden Jubilee Festival Committee has indulged in that task with the cooperation of Catholic Sabha. Let us all join in planting saplings and saving the environment,” he said.
Besides the parish, Catholic families in Bengaluru, Mumbai and even in Arab nations hailing from Udyavar joined in Vanamahotsava programme by planting saplings in their house premises.
Parish pastoral council vice president Melwin Noronha, golden jubilee festival committee president Michael D’Souza, ICYM president Royal Castelino, Ronald D’Souza, Alwyn Andrade, Wilfred D’Souza, Jerald Pereira, Julia D’Souza, Godfrey D’Souza, Royce Fernandes, John Gomes, Joseph Colaco, Errol Gonsalves, Jude Nelson, Prem Menezes and others were present.
Catholic Sabha Udyavar unit president Lawrence D’Sa welcomed. Golden Jubilee Festival Committee chief secretary Dora Aroza rendered a vote of thanks. Programme convener Steven Colaco, Udyavar compered the programme.
