Mangaluru, Aug 6: To accommodate rising coronavirus cases district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary directed the private hospitals to reserve 50 per cent of their bed capacity for coronavirus patients. "Private hospitals and medical colleges are mandatorily required to reserve 50% of their beds to treat the coronavirus patients," urged Kota.
On Thursday, Kota conducted an inspection at A J Hospital and Srinivas Medical College regarding the coronavirus treatment acting on the request of Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty.

"Maintenance of public health is the priority of the government. Private hospitals should cooperate with the government in treating the corona-infected people in the district. The state government intends to provide free treatment to COVID patients under Ayushman scheme. Patients who are undergoing treatment privately should be charged only according to the charges fixed by the government,” he said.
“The government is supplying Rapid Antigen kits to private hospitals and has directed them to conduct tests free of charge. Such tests are being conducted in government hospitals already. The state government will also supply 50 ventilators to the district,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said that the patients should be provided with details of the COVID treatment, fee information and details regarding Ayushman scheme when the patients get admitted. "The details should be displayed at the entrance of the hospital on a big board. All the medical colleges should conduct 100 Rapid Antigen tests free of charge every day,” he said.
“Arogya Mitra activists are appointed by the health department in every medical college hospital to provide details of Ayushman scheme to the people. They should work efficiently and strict action will be taken against those who are negligent," warned the DC.
