Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 6: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Thursday August 6 reported 173 fresh coronavirus cases and 11 deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi recorded a steep hike with 217 new cases and six deaths were reported in the district.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 6,715 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,398 are currently active. As many as 3,116 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 107 on Thursday. A total of 201 deaths have occurred so far, including 11 on Thursday.
Among the 173 new cases, 83 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 13 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 23 are primary contacts, and 50 are under investigation. Four have international travelling history.
Out of the 173 cases, as many as 119 are from Mangaluru, four from Moodbidri, one from Mulky, 21 from Bantwal, four from Beltangady, 13 from Puttur, two from Kadaba, five from Sullia and four are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 4,739, Moodbidri 98, Mulky 91, Bantwal 627, Beltangady 314, Puttur 316, Kadaba 55, and Sullia 82. As many as 393 cases so far are from outside DK district.
Among the 11 patients who died on Thursday, six are from Mangaluru, two from Bantwal, and three outside DK district. All the 11 patients had comorbidities.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, as many as 5,360 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 217 on Thursday. As many as 3,157 patients have been discharged so far, including 85 on Thursday, and 2,153 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 50 deaths have occurred so far including six on Thursday. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
The six deaths on Thursday include an 82-year-old male from Kundapur who had ischemic heart disease, hypertension, acute respiratory distress syndrome, TYPE 2 diabetes mellitus, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The second was a 55-year-old male from Udupi who had hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and ischemic heart disease. The third was a 52-year-old male from Kundapur who had liver dysfunction. The fourth was a 75-year-old man from Karkala who had hypertension. The fifth was a 36-year-old male from Udupi who had septic shock, TYPE 2 diabetes mellitus, depression, and organophosphate poisoning. The sixth was a 70-year-old male from Udupi who was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ischemic heart disease, and liver failure with encephalopathy.
Among the 217 new cases, 90 are in Udupi, 81 in Kundapur, 44 in Karkala, and two from outside the district. As many as 85 cases symptomatic and 132 asymptomatic. Among them, 129 are male and 88 female out of which 93 have contracted infection from primary contacts, 62 have ILI symptoms, nine have SARI symptoms, 51 are under investigation, and two have domestic travelling history. Out of the 217, 12 have been admitted to COVID care centre, 84 to designated COVID hospital, 42 to designated COVID health hospital and 79 are under home isolation.
A total of 40,044 samples have been collected so far, including 1,991 on Thursday, out of which 1,389 are COVID suspects and 169 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 33,455 have turned out to be negative, including 1,685 on Thursday, and 1,229 reports are awaited.
