Mumbai, Mar 14 (PTI) : Two terror suspects allegedly operating here for a terror outfit in Pakistan have been arrested for conducting recce of an ONGC installation and two markets for attacking them, a senior official from Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) said on Sunday.
On a tip off by Central Security Agencies, Abdul Latif alias Guddu (29) and Riyaz Ali (23) were arrested from near Matunga railway station in central Mumbai last night, ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi told reporters.
"We have established that their targets were ONGC, Thakkar Mall and Malgaldas Market. They wanted to execute their terror plans soon. Their plan included setting them on fire," he said.
Raghuvanshi said their preliminary probe suggested that the duo were following instructions from someone called 'Uncle' from Pakistan. "We are taking the central security agencies' help to identify the person 'Uncle' whom they were referring to," he said.
Abdul Latif is a Bandra resident and Riyaz Ali is from Dahisar in suburbs here, the ATS chief said adding the duo were also given task of arranging passports in order to send their associates from here to Pakistan for recruitment.
"The duo had also submitted relevant documents for passports," he said. "However, before their associates reached Pakistan, they wanted to carry out at a big attack here," Raghuvanshi added.
"The duo identified the targets and they were arranging things to execute them fast. Their plan includes sabotage and setting ablaze the targets," he said.
"We feel that more people were involved in this and that's why I do not want to say anything more on this issue," he said.
Thakkar Mall is located in suburban Borivali while Mangaldas Market is situated south Mumbai. Police did not specify the ONGC installation. However they suspect that it could be the ONGC office building in Bandra.
