Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 5: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Wednesday August 5 recorded 149 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 173 fresh cases and two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 6,542 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,343 are currently active. As many as 3,009 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 82 on Wednesday. A total of 190 deaths have occurred so far, including 10 on Wednesday.
Among the 149 new cases, 64 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 12 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 27 are primary contacts, and 46 are under investigation.
Out of the 149 cases, as many as 79 are from Mangaluru, 16 from Bantwal, 21 from Beltangady, 20 from Puttur, one from Sullia and 12 are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 4,620, Moodbidri 94, Mulky 90, Bantwal 606, Beltangady 310, Puttur 303, Kadaba 53, and Sullia 77. As many as 389 cases so far are from outside DK district.
Among the 10 patients who died on Wednesday, seven are from Mangaluru, one each from Puttur, Beltangady and outside DK district. All the 10 patients had comorbidities.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, as many as 5,143 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 173 on Wednesday. As many as 3,072 patients have been discharged so far, including 124 on Wednesday, and 2,027 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 44 deaths have occurred so far including two on Wednesday - a 72-year-old male and a 55-year-old female. Both had comorbidities. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the 173 new cases, 76 are in Udupi, 57 in Kundapur, 39 in Karkala, and one from outside the district. As many as 62 cases symptomatic and 111 asymptomatic. Among them, 99 are male and 74 female out of which 46 have contracted infection from primary contacts, 73 have ILI symptoms, 51 are under investigation, and three have domestic travelling history. Out of the 173, two have been admitted to COVID care centre, 69 to designated COVID hospital, 34 to designated COVID health hospital and 68 are under home isolation.
A total of 38,053 samples have been collected so far, including 1,853 on Wednesday, out of which 1,272 are COVID suspects and 311 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 31,770 have turned out to be negative, including 1,244 on Wednesday, and 1,140 reports are awaited.
