Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Aug 5: In Kasargod district, a formula has been arrived at to obviate coronavirus complications, as per which the fishermen will undertake fishing activity on alternative days. This decision was taken at a meeting held at the office of the district collector (DC) here on Tuesday August 4.

A meeting of fishermen's representatives was convened at the office of the DC which was presided over by the DC Dr Sajith Babu. It was decided that fishing boats having registration numbers ending with even numbers should engage in fishing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while boats ending with odd numbers will leave on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. In places where Friday is observed as fishing holiday, even number boats can undertake fishing on Sundays.

Boats from other states have been barred from fishing in the state's seashore. They have been restrained from entering the fish landing centres of the harbours here. It was also decided that harbour fishing and sale should be supervised by Harbour Management Society while the work of transferring fish from the fish landing centres to the shore should be undertaken by committees of representatives.

The boat owners hiring workers from other states have been instructed to get the workers tested for COVID and to file negative certificates with the Harbour Management Society and People's Committees.
