Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 4: Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday August 4 recorded another steep spike in the number of coronavirus cases, with as many as 225 new cases and four deaths reported in the district. Meanwhile, Udupi also reported a spike with 170 new cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 6,393 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,061 are currently active. As many as 2,927 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 73 on Tuesday. A total of 180 deaths have occured so far, including four on Tuesday.
Among the 225 new cases, 67 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 20 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 60 are primary contacts, and 77 are under investigation. One patient has international travel history.
Out of the 225 cases, as many as 147 are from Mangaluru, one from Moodbidri, 19 from Bantwal, 29 from Beltangady, 16 from Puttur, four from Sullia and nine are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 4,541, Moodbidri 94, Mulky 90, Bantwal 590, Beltangady 289, Puttur 283, Kadaba 53, and Sullia 74. As many as 377 cases so far are from outside DK district.
All the four patients who died on Tuesday had comorbidities, and all of them died in Mangaluru.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,193 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 341 people are in isolation wards, including 53 fresh admissions on Tuesday. Among the new admissions, 18 are COVID suspects, 12 have SARI and 23 influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,723 people, including 22 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 36,200 samples have been collected so far, including 1,700 on Tuesday, out of which 1,195 are COVID suspects and 250 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 30,526 have turned out to be negative, including 1,352 on Tuesday, and 704 reports are awaited.
As many as 4,970 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 170 on Tuesday. As many as 2,948 patients have been discharged so far, including 136 on Tuesday, and 1,980 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 42 deaths have occured so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the 170 new cases, 74 are in Udupi, 55 in Kundapur, 39 in Karkala, and two from outside the district. Among them, 109 are male and 61 female.
