Bengaluru, Aug 4: Preparations are in full swing to hold examinations for the final semester/year degree students. Deputy chief minister (DCM), Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, who is also the minister for higher education, said that all the universities have been instructed to hold examinations for backlog subjects too.
The DCM was addressing a press meet at Vikasa Soudha here on Monday August 3. He also held video conference with all the deputy commissioners of districts, superintendents of police, deputy director of PU education, and managing directors of road transport corporations and thanked them for helping the CET examination to be held without any hitch.
"Because of the prevailing COVID situation, it has been decided to hold examinations only for the final year/semester degree students. We, in the meantime, have got information that some universities have decided against holding examinations for subjects in the previous semesters which were not cleared by the students. We warn that this is a crime that cannot be condoned," he warned.
The minister said that the main purpose of the government is to help the students in the final year to complete their degree education and pursue their future. He pointed out that if only final year or semester examinations are conducted, the problems of the students will not get addressed. The students have to be allowed to appear for subjects pertaining to previous years/semesters which they have not cleared. All the universities need to compulsorily adhere to this instruction, he asserted.
Dr Ashwath Naryan also said that 33 degree colleges ind different districts in the state face the problem of space. He said that it is the responsibility of the deputy commissioners to get them sufficient land, duly mentioning that sites have not been issued to six degree colleges in Bagalkot district alone. Deputy commissioner, Capt Rajendra, in response, promised to allot land immediately if the officials of the department send him proposals.
Additional chief secretary in the department of higher education, Dr Ramana Reddy, executive director of Karnataka Examinations Aauthority, Venkata Raja, and commissioner of degree and technical education department, P Pradeep, were present.
