Vijayapura, Aug 1: The people are habituated to pity the people suffering from coronavirus infection. There is also an angle of suspicion and a sense of derision in the minds of the people. One can understand this behaviour coming from illiterates as there is a possibility that they do not have the proper information. But if educated people show this behaviour, it can be termed as inhuman at least. There is an allegation that the residents of an extension here have imposed an undeclared social boycott on a family of a corona positive patient.
A resident of Siddivinayaka Nagar near Chalukya Nagar in the city has been tested positive for coronavirus infection. His family has arranged for his home isolation in the first floor of their house. But the educated residents of the extension reportedly have been showing uncivilized behaviour towards the family. They have stopped domestic servants from visiting the family. The affected family says that the residents have threatened these domestic servants of stopping to avail of their services if they work for the affected family.
It is said that some people from the locality have warned people who cook elsewhere and keep the food so cooked outside this house, those who deliver milk, and newspaper boys. They have told them that if they help the infected family, they need not visit their houses for any work.
Health department staff visited their house for medical checks and medicines and returned. But the behaviour of the people around has drained the family members mentally. They are flabbergasted at the uncivilized and inhuman behaviour of the educated people living in the colony.
The family has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister's office, chief minister, health minister and district deputy commissioner to their plight, duly requesting them to respond to their problems, through tweets.
This is the same extension, people from where had sealed down the graveyard in the locality a few days back by spreading thorny bushes. After the other people flared up, provision has now been made in the said graveyard for funeral.
