Mangaluru, Jul 31: Muslims from coastal region are celebrating Eid on Friday July 31. The celebration this time however has been of low key because of restrictions placed in tune with the threat of coronavirus infection that has been looming large.
People came to Nadupalli mosque at Kudroli and offered prayers and did spiritual reflection in a solemn atmosphere. They were found wearing masks when offering prayers, and maintained social distance as per the government instructions. At the same time, the Idgah prayer ground at Lighthouse Hill, which usually witnessed prayers and enthusiastic celebrations including exchange of greetings in the past on Eid, wore a deserted look this time as the government has barred Eid prayers from being offered at Idgah grounds, marriage halls etc.

At Udupi, Bakrid is being celebrated in an atmosphere of devotion and holy environment. Covid norms are being enforced strictly by maintaining social distance and duly using sanitizers.
The priest led prayers at Jamia Masjid at Udupi. Only 50 members were allowed to participate in prayers inside the mosque building at a time. The mosque committee made sure that social distancing norms were observed by the people visiting the mosque.
Similar scenes were witnessed in other mosques all along the coast. The people avoided shaking hands or hugging one another, which normally are part of the Eid celebrations, as per the rules.
