Mangalore, Mar 10: The International Women’s Day 2010 was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm and grandeur by the members of Shanthi Women’s Group of St Jude Church, Pakshikere here on Sunday March 7.
Women groups from units, Niddodi, Kateel, Kirem, Kinnigoli, Balkunje and Mulky were present. Thanksgiving mass was celebrated at the church by the assistant parish priest Fr Anil D’Souza and the liturgy was conducted by the members of Shanthi Women’s Group.
The holy mass was followed by the function at the church hall that began at 9:45 am with a prayer song. The masters of ceremony for the function were Lucy D’Souza, assistant secretary and Cynthia D’Souza, member of Shanthi Women’s Group. Vice-president of the group, Mable Cutinho welcomed the gathering and inaugurated the programme.
The women of all the six units then showcased their talents and put up an excellent cultural programme comprising songs, dances and skits with appropriate and meaningful messages. A few spot games were also conducted in which all women participated actively.
The cultural programme was followed by the formal function. Fr Alban D’Souza, parish priest, St Jude Church, Pakshikere presided. The Chief Guests of the function were Fr Alfred J Pinto, parish priest, Kinnigoli, Sr Agnesia Frank, organizer, ‘Shubada’, Suralpady; and Leena Roche, president, D CC W, Mangalore. Sr Margaret, superior, Maria Kripalaya, Pakshikere, Edna D’Souza, president, Women’s Group, Kinnigoli Varado, Louis D’Souza, vice-president, Parish Council, St Jude Church, Pakshikere and Magdalene Saldanha, president, Shanthi Women’s Group, Pakshikere were also present.
The resource person, Viola Maria Noronha, research assistant and Student Counsellor, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya addressed the women regarding their role at home, in the parish as well as in the society. She stressed on the importance of exploring their talent and capabilities and utilizing them to change themselves, families, community and our country for the better.
Prizes were distributed to all the winners of the spot games. Hyacintha Miranda, secretary, Shanthi Women’s Group delivered the vote of thanks.
